Wilshire & Scott P.C. opened its offices for the practice of law on July 1, 1986. Prior to forming Wilshire & Scott, principals of the firm had practiced law together since 1978.
We are civil trial and appellate lawyers whose practice has been built on the esteem of other lawyers. Many of our clients have come, in the first instance, as referrals from other members of the bar. Over the years many attorneys have regularly entrusted their most valued clients to us when litigation needs arose. The firm's clients are located throughout Texas and the United States and represent a multiplicity of industry sectors. In addition, many of our clients have been lawyers. The first new client that retained our firm was an attorney, and, through the years, more than 100 lawyers, including entire firms, have entrusted their personal law suits and disputes to Wilshire & Scott. We are both proud and humbled by this fact.
From inception, the
firm has concentrated and generally restricted its practice to civil business
litigation and controversy resolution. Since the founding of Wilshire & Scott in 1986,
we have been privileged to represent clients that have retained us in matters
that extend across the full panoply of business disputes, covering the broad
range of business litigation: contracts, real estate, landlord-tenant, securities,
oil and gas, banking and finance, business torts, insurance, employment, professional
services, food service, construction, and environmental management. Our practice
has entailed the representation of clients in a number of venues in state and
federal trial and appellate courts.
Attorneys in the firm have practiced together for more than twenty-five years and have almost a hundred years of combined trial experience. Two members of the firm have been awarded certificates of special competence by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization as specialists in the field of Civil Trial Law, and one is also certified as a specialist in Civil Appellate Law. Two of the firm's principals have also received certificates of special competency as Civil Trial Advocates by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Two of Wilshire & Scott's principals are life-sustaining Fellows of both the Houston Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation.
Recently, the firm received two distinct honors. Wilshire & Scott was listed by the American Lawyer as one of the outstanding law firms in the United States. This award was based upon a survey by the magazine of the general counsel of four hundred major corporations. Our firm was one of only eleven Houston firms noted for excellence in civil litigation. The firm is also listed as "preeminent" in civil litigation by Martindale-Hubbell. Since 1986, the firm has also received Martindale-Hubbell's highest rating designation of "AV."
